Action Group Correspondance to TD,s and Review body:

Dear Wicklow TDs and Councillors

Having received a reply from An Post to the effect that the decision to close Donard Post Office has been upheld by the independent review body, we have decided to bring our case to Leinster House. The reply from An Post has been offhand and lacks any credibility that an independent review has actually been carried out. Please see below the text of our reply to the “Independent” reviewers.

We will arrive with a convoy of tractors and 4×4’s at 2pm on next Tuesday 23rd of October. We will travel 15km (a significant figure in this debate) from Boharnabreena. The Gardai have been informed and have given us guidance on what is correct behaviour, which we will abide by.

On arrival we will hold a speech summarising the content of a submission to the (new) Minister for Communications. We will personally hand over said submission and invite you, Minister Bruton, to be there to accept this document which is vital for rural Ireland.

We furthermore invite all of the TDs to take the stand and say a few words in support of this cause.

Please free to contact me on 087 2393725 should you want to make a positive and constructive contribution to this process.

Kind regards

Philipp Matuschka

Re: Review of proposed closure of Donard Post Office

Dear Sirs

We recently submitted a submission to you to have the decision to close Donard Post Office reviewed by you as the independent reviewers.

We this week received a letter from An Post advising us that the decision to close Donard Post Office has been upheld. Other than the obvious disappointment, we are appalled to find that

  1. a) the reply was at best a template reply with the word Donard inserted occasionally
  2. b) in no way addresses the individual points made by us and to have done so would have rendered the upholding of the decision impossible
  3. c) shockingly came from An Post itself and not from you, thus entirely removing any faith in the credibility of the process

We call on you to by return post furnish us with the full review document, detailing how each point we made was dealt with, in particular the points about population and distance for over one third of the community from the replacement post office. Failure to do so, will render the process completely unbelievable and lead us to believe that the entire review process has been nothing but a window dressing process.

Yours sincerely
